Press Release from Camden Board of Education, May 16, 2024:
The Camden County Board of Education is excited to announce the selection and election of Dr. Brandon Ratliff as the next superintendent of the Camden County Schools. Dr. Ratliff will take office on July 1, 2024.
Dr. Ratliff brings over twenty-five years of experience in public education. His passion for teaching began when he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education from East Tennessee State University. Motivated to make a greater impact, he pursued a Master of Education Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the same institution. Driven by a thirst for knowledge and growth, he furthered his studies and earned a Doctor of Education Degree in Educational Leadership from Liberty University.
Starting as a special education teacher in Northeast Tennessee, Dr. Ratliff's career journey has taken him through the educational landscape of Southwest Virginia and Hampton Roads Virginia over the past two decades. Throughout his career, he held various leadership positions, including assistant principal, principal at all school levels, director at a school board office, and Assistant Superintendent for Instruction. Most recently, Dr. Ratliff has been serving as Assistant Superintendent for Operations for the Poquoson City Public Schools in Poquoson, Virginia, from July 2021 to the present.
Beyond his administrative roles, Dr. Ratliff finds joy in sharing his expertise with future educators. For the past seven years, he has served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Educational Leadership Department at Old Dominion University. Dr. Ratliff and the Board expect that he will continue serving as an adjunct faculty member there.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Ratliff finds strength and support in his family. Married to his wife, Adrienne, for twenty-six years, they are proud parents to three children: Seth, Lucas, and Kate. This holistic approach to life and education shapes Dr. Ratliff's story of dedication, perseverance, and commitment to improving the educational landscape. Dr. Ratliff states, "I am very fortunate and blessed to serve in the role of superintendent of Camden County Schools."
The Board began the search process in January, 2024. The Board carefully and thoughtfully reviewed numerous applications from a diverse field of well qualified candidates, and interviewed several candidates. The Board felt that Dr. Ratliff's broad experience, proven leadership, and dedication to students and staff would best serve CCS students, employees, and the community for years to come.
The Board is grateful for the service of Dr. Michael Bracy who has been serving as the Interim Superintendent since October 9, 2023. Dr. Bracey will continue to serve until Dr. Ratliff starts.
Please join the board in congratulating and welcoming Dr. Ratliff as the new superintendent of the Camden County Schools.
